About Mines AMWA

Colorado School of Mines is home to a branch of the AMWA's premedical division. We formed in January 2022 to share guidance, mentorship, and support with any Mines student interested in a health profession.

As an engineer, scientist, mathematician, or physicist, it can be difficult to know where to begin when exploring a career in medicine. We are here to help.

We invite you to join Mines AMWA wherever you are in your path to medicine. It is never too late or too early to start considering becoming a physician, and we want to help you on your way to medical school.

At Mines, we offer a support network to elevate you on your journey and prepare you for the next step. We can provide a list of prerequisite classes you should consider as well as hospitals around Golden to seek volunteering and shadowing opportunities. Being a premed student is certainly a lot of hard work, especially coupled with a Mines course load and extracurriculars, but you can succeed.

Mines AMWA has connected with physicians, dentists, and nurses to bring you the best guest speakers. At our bimonthly meetings, we have discussed women's issues, medical pathways, potential specialties, and how to thrive in a medical career. We have social events to connect you with other students to build a community and a premedical network, and we are excited to continue to present these opportunities in the future.

We hope to see you at our meetings!
